Description:

Bridgehampton Race Track was built near Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York, in 1957. It now joins LimeRock_Twist (V4.0) and Riverside_1970 (V1.0) as a trio of road courses I have developed for NR2003.

Bridgehampton road races began in 1915-1921 and were reinstated in 1949-1953. A dedicated road racing circuit was established in 1957 and continued in various forms until its demise in about 1998.

1958 through 1966 saw NASCAR sanctioned racing at "the Bridge" on four occasions, including wins by David Pearson and Richard Petty. Motorcycles, SCCA, CAN AM, and Trans Am all held regional and/or national events there.

In 1979 they ran some races in a counterclockwise direction.

Jim Hall's legendary Chaparral 2E made its sensational debut on the Bridgehampton race track in September 1966.

Pedro Rodrieguez, Phil Hill, Mario Andretti, Mark Donahue, Dan Gurney, Briggs Cunningham raced there, to name just a few.

Stirling Moss said it was "the most challenging course in the States."

You can go there today and drive a golf ball around what was for 85 years a world renowned fixture of road racing in America. Or, thanks to the magic of virtual reality, you can drive the course the way it was in the 1960's and 70's.

But a word of warning before you drive: "All who have raced there know that the earth is flat and ends in the sand at turn two." - Bruce MacInnes, Chief Instructor, Skip Barber Racing School.
